My Golden Birthday

Yesterday, I celebrated my 26th birthday, my golden birthday. And let me tell you guys, it was a good one! It was the perfect mix of relaxation and turn-up time. I started out the day with a run around Lake Merritt followed by an uh-maaaaazing 75-minute massage and wax. Afterwards, my dad surprised me from Sacramento and showed up at my door with a decadent birthday cake and huge bouquet of flowers! To seal the deal on this golden day, I met up with 15 of my friends at one of my favorite bar/restaurants, Make Westing, where we had a blast throwing around bocce balls and tossing back drinks and cilantro and lime popcorn. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday 🙂

Over the weekend I scored an amazing deal on this tie-dye maxi with see-through bottom from Express for $15! I went for a neutral tone and paired tan/brown wedges along with a natural tone leather satchel from Ethiopia. For jewelry, I wanted a pop of color so, I opted for turquoise beaded bracelets with a multi-strand necklace.

Gold eyeshadow added subtle shine and sparkle and I continued the turquoise theme with turquoise eyeliner on my lower lid line.
It was too damn hot to straighten my hair so curls was the way to go.

My running buddy, Emily with my boyfriend, Jovan.

How cool is my younger cousin? Ladies, he’s single!
Stylish duo, no? Hot couple alert!

I spy my favorite blondie, Shannon!

Turn-up girls Alisia Perez and Kharriyah.

These crazy kids are too funny! Natesha and Kaimel always keep me laughing.

Me and my man 🙂

Flowers from Pops.

Such a decadent cake! Purely for the chocoholics.

A couple of a girls favorite things: sweets and flowers.

Life’s a Beach: Winter Vacation Inspiration

Playa Flamenco, Puerto Rico

A last minute trip to my island, Puerto Rico, has been eating away at me. Should I stay? Should I go? Who’s gonna feed my cat? Really, $1,100.00 for a round-trip flight? All signs point to ‘yes’ but things get a little more complicated of course.

So, I decided to put a look together to help inspire me some more on my journey to the Caribbean. For an island that is almost 100% humidity 100% of the time, a maxi dress is an easy pick for it’s effortless flow and airy-ness. Studded sandals in a deep blue add a hint of edge. Gold accessories create a glam feel and tastefully add lots of gleam and sheen. Pops of bright colors are undeniable for the Caribbean with orange polish and magenta lipstick. Top off the entire look with a straw fedora and it screams “I’m on vacation!”

Wow…I think I just typed myself into a decision. Yes.

Winter Maxi Look

Still trying to figure out how to wear a maxi in the winter? It’s a lot easier than you think. Just pull out your favorite maxi (preferably with a long sleeve or if pulling a maxi skirt, grab a long sleeved top), grab a pair of tall boots and layer up with a vest. Pair your look with accessories like a waist belt and/or add another layer with a scarf. Voila! You’re done.
Peep my picks below:
