Look of the Day: Tribal Inspired

What a beautiful winter, isn’t it? Well, not everyone lives in (the best state ever) California. Here in the Golden State, we’re experiencing a rather warm winter. The sun shines so bright and I can feel the envy from my friends shivering on the East Coast. #sorrynotsorry
I will say though, the weather has been creating difficult winter wardrobe choices. Numerous questions like, “Is it going to be warm or chilly today? Should I wear a longer jacket? Will I be too hot in boots?” and the like, run through my mind during my daily morning ‘get ready’ routine. On this day, it started out gloomy with overcast and then leaded to lots of sun with a cool breeze. I screamed, “Make up your mind, weather!”
So finally, I put together a Native American inspired tribal dress that’s thick like a sweater plus tall black boots with exposed zippers paired with patterned black tights. This way I could stay mostly warm with thick pieces and exposed arms and neck to keep me cool and balanced. With this casual look, I played down the number of jewelry pieces and narrowed down to my favorite, Bobbi J earrings. Hair and makeup are simple and sweet with half up and super straight a neutral brown eyeshadow by MAC named Corduroy.

Vintage Steal from Dad’s Closet: Army Utility Jacket

I haven’t won the lottery yet, but I sure did hit the jackpot in my dad’s closet. So far, I’ve picked up three amazing jackets dating back to the 70s and 80s. One of them is this awesome army green utility jacket. It’s super roomy, lightweight and has lots of pockets. Gotta love that super soft, worn-in feel too. The funny part about my stealing borrowing from my dad is that he completely forgot that jacket was still in his closet– let alone that it was even his!
So here I am in dad’s (now mine) jacket, chevron print scarf, leggings, tall boots and graphic tank:

Look of the Day: Leopard + Trench

Today I head out to meet two of my beautiful, Friday Feature friends, Jessica Linehan and Shireen Rahimi, for lunch and chit chat about our business plans for 2013. It’s such an amazing sunny and crisp Thursday so, I had to sport one of my favorites: leopard! This teal and camel, button-up top was gifted to me by my loving aunt and uncle in Puerto Rico. I added an everyday skinny denim from Gap with tall Enzo Angiolini leather boots plus a Rag & Bone trench for the swift and cool San Francisco breeze.

Sweater + Denim + Boots

Thanksgiving is tomorrow. Is it, really? SMH. Well, as I’m currently taking a break from baking 3 sweet potato pies, 40 cookies, and 2 trays of mac-and-cheese (shoot me now), all I keep thinking about is what I’m going to pack for my long weekend in my hometown, Sacramento, CA.
And these are the only types of pieces I feel like wearing this weekend. Nothing too frilly or high-maintenance– just cute and casual. Sweaters, denim, and boots:
Left: Sweater: MANGO Denim: Maison Martin Margiela Necklace: Pim + Larkin Booties: Rachel Zoe Watch: Nixon
Right: Sweater: J Crew Denim: Siviglia Boots: Frye Watch: Michael Kors Earrings: Maison de Morgana

Rain Boots?

Yesterday morning I woke up to rain. Immediately I thought, “What the hell am I gonna wear (on my feet)?” Good thing, earlier this year, I purchased a pair of rain boots that don’t really look like…well, rain boots. And that’s what I liked most about my new, deceiving rain shoes. Not to my surprise, more styles of rain boots, sneakers and shoes are on the shelves and making appearances online: heels, wedges, rubber bows, mixed textiles, buckles, studs, laces and more. Now don’t get me wrong, I adore the classic shiny, tall, rain boot style…I just like the new kids on the blockmore!

Here are the rain ‘sneakers’ I bought earlier this year:
