Look of the Day: Tribal Inspired

What a beautiful winter, isn’t it? Well, not everyone lives in (the best state ever) California. Here in the Golden State, we’re experiencing a rather warm winter. The sun shines so bright and I can feel the envy from my friends shivering on the East Coast. #sorrynotsorry
I will say though, the weather has been creating difficult winter wardrobe choices. Numerous questions like, “Is it going to be warm or chilly today? Should I wear a longer jacket? Will I be too hot in boots?” and the like, run through my mind during my daily morning ‘get ready’ routine. On this day, it started out gloomy with overcast and then leaded to lots of sun with a cool breeze. I screamed, “Make up your mind, weather!”
So finally, I put together a Native American inspired tribal dress that’s thick like a sweater plus tall black boots with exposed zippers paired with patterned black tights. This way I could stay mostly warm with thick pieces and exposed arms and neck to keep me cool and balanced. With this casual look, I played down the number of jewelry pieces and narrowed down to my favorite, Bobbi J earrings. Hair and makeup are simple and sweet with half up and super straight a neutral brown eyeshadow by MAC named Corduroy.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Every month or so I head back to my hometown, Sacramento. It’s always nice to visit family and stroll along areas where I used to get into get into trouble (ok, not that much trouble). I start to feel really old when I catch myself saying, “I remember way back when…” We passed by the state capitol and memories started to flood my mind of my days as a State Assembly intern when I was 15 years old.

On this day, I wore one of my favorite maxis with a mermaid bottom and an open back detail. The material is super thin so I have to pair a cover-up for no nip sightings— a sheer, black, collared blouse with gold studs and front tie definitely did the trick! I showed off the deep plunge in the front with one of my fave gold pieces by Bobbi J.

Look of the Day: Cut Your Heart Out Cut-Outs

As I’m yearning for fall weather to hit my thermometer, it’s still hot as you-know-what. Thanks to end-of-season sales, I still get to buy summer looks for half the price.

While in Vegas a month ago, I spotted a long, flowy maxi dress from S.Y.L.K. with the type of cut-outs I’ve been craving for– cut-outs in the front! I’m a sucker for prints so, this one right here just reeled me right in and straight to the cash register.

For shoes and accessories, I kept it as balanced as possible so I wouldn’t overpower one with the other. I wore gold chain feathered earrings, a bare neck so I wouldn’t compete with the cut-outs, custom Bobbi J stone and Swarovski crystal bracelets, and leather, strappy studded sandals that I’ve owned for years and years.

Neighborhood Stroll

One of the best features about living in the East Bay is definitely the weather– lots of sunshine, clear skies, and it will always be a minimum of 7 degrees warmer than SF. On this day I decided to meet up with one of my besties, Jessica, and have a wonderful Friday morning brunch at Crepevine in the Rockridge area of Oakland. While we were looking for parking, we cruised by beautiful craftsman and Spanish style homes with huge trees canopying over the streets. So she says, “Stop! Turn around. Let’s take some photos real quick.” And so we did.
So here are some shots of my simple look of the day:

My Love Affair With Turquoise

When summer rolls around, I naturally gravitate towards turquoise. From nails to jewelry to makeup to dresses, something (not all) is gonna be turquoise. As a sun addict (yes, mom I’m wearing sunscreen), my newly bronzed skin tone just makes this color pop! Maybe I love the color so much because it reminds me of the inviting ocean water in the tropics? Who knows.
In this look, I’m sporting a dress I’ve had for over a decade. Yes, a flipping decade! This floral printed halter dress is a curve-hugger for sure! I’m loving the subtle print too. I paired a strappy neutral wedge for mega height and texture and shot for a simpler tone with pearl jewelry. To top it off, a messy curly bun because to be completely honest, I didn’t feel like putting any effort in perfecting my hair being that it was hot as f***.

Look of the Day: A Day At the San Diego Zoo

Continuing my previous post of my adventures in San Diego, on this day we paid a visit to my bf’s furry friends at the San Diego Zoo. After popping celebratory birthday champagne bottles for brunch at Broken Yolk in the Gaslamp District for his birthday, we were in for a serious wake up call when we arrived at the zoo. Clearly, we underestimated how HUGE the zoo actually is. It’s like Disneyland for animals– no joke.
Point blank, I definitely chose the wrong outfit. Why? Even though the weatherman said it would be significantly cooler than the day before, it wasn’t. It was most likely hotter. And why did I choose to believe in the weather man? No idea because they’re never right any other time.
Nonetheless, I still enjoyed my time oohing and awwing at the majestic creatures in Gap denim, a teal, flowy layered top my mom gifted from Mexico and tan ballet flats with a neon orange capped toe. I wanted to mix up my outfits over the weekend instead of wearing dress after dress after dress. With all the walking, my flats started to ache and rub the back of my heel, my jeans didn’t allow for much air flow to cool off. Towards the end of the day, I started to push up my layered top to cool off some sort of way! Good thing they served beer at the zoo or else I would have been bitchin’ the whole day 😉

Monday Motivation: Friends Promote Friends

Whenever a friend of mine has accomplished something small or great, I feel like that one super loud person in the crowd with a handmade sign, wildly jumping up and down, screaming, “That’s my girl! Way to goooo!” I get so excited and happy to see them on their way to success and surpassing milestones.

One of them is my friend of eight years, Jessica Linehan, founder and artist of Bobbi J jewelry. If you’ve been reading through my many blog posts, you’ve probably seen her name, face, and jewels about a dozen times. Less than 24 hrs ago, she just dropped an uh-maaazzzinnnggg video directed and created by our friend, Alisia Perez, who also directed my ‘About Me’ video as well. I can’t stress enough, how proud I am to be their friend and to be able to surround myself with such awesome, original creativity that is nothing less than DOPE.

Look of the Day: Ladies Who Lunch

Don’t you just love those types of friends where you can go a while without seeing each other and then finally reunite and act like you live together? Yeah, well that’s me and jewelry artisan, Jessica Linehan of Bobbi J. With our chaotic schedules, we were lucky set a date, time and location for a little lunchy-poo. On this particular day, the sun couldn’t shine any brighter in Union Square and we were so fortunate and had to take advantage before the fog rolled on in.
We decided to take a stroll down Maiden Lane before we grabbed a bite to eat before my class. Scroll on down for our looks of the day in beautiful San Francisco:

In Love With Bobbi J Jewelry

It’s a beautiful thing when one of your best friends is a jewelry designer. I’m a huge supporter for anything that my friends do, because that’s what friends are for. Plus, her sh*t is dope! I have been eyeing almost everything on her site, but especially for a pair of one-of-a-kind earrings. The ‘La Bella’ earrings were it! So I ordered and little did I know, a custom necklace was also placed in my shipment. A brass pendant necklace was the best surprise. To top it off, ‘PUMPS’ was hammered onto the lovely piece. Thank you Jessica for all the love!
