Look of the Day: Safari Print and Gladiator Sandals

A couple weekends ago, the bf and I headed down to San Diego for a quick getaway for our birthdays and visit my familia. Of course, we chose to visit during one of the hottest weekends ever, but thank God there are beautiful beaches in San Diego.
During summer, all I want to wear are dresses because they’re easy, breezy and simple enough to just toss on one piece and be done. Unfortunately, the heat can make me one Irritated Isabel so, dresses help me keep my cool.
On this day, I chose a black and white safari print with a wood beaded halter along with brown gladiator sandals. Both pieces I’ve had for years and have held up pretty well considering all the treks around town I’ve made in them. It was so hot this day and I was so grateful that the spotted dress was lightweight, stretchy and breathable. The sandals are so durable and made walking around the Gaslamp district so easy and comfy.

Not a fan of the Padres but the stadium is pretty cool.

Beach Bummin’

As I’m entering the middle of this hectic first quarter of my grad program, I can barely find the time to blog. Sorry, folks! Within the past 36 hours I’ve had 4 midterms and a huge presentation. Can you say ‘no life’? I’m happy to say I currently have a little bit of breathing room so, where’s my first escape to relax? My blog.

Today’s Polyvore inspiration is 100% influenced by my mood. All I want to do right now is teleport myself to a tropical beach with white, soft sand and clear water, lay down on a comfy lounge chair that’s strategically placed underneath an umbrella, magazine in hand, with a bucket-o-brews by my side. No cell phone, no laptop, not a damn thing.

The next thing I consider as I’m daydreaming about relaxing at the beach, is what am I gonna wear? As I hate tan lines, strapless is my go-to. I’m crazy for color and prints and new styles away from the typical string bikini and opt for a synched bottom with a v-cut on top. After splashing in the water, my hair goes absolutely cray-cray– a hat is a necessitiy so, why not add a little bit of drama with this floppy brim. As you see, with the bucket-o-brews, my tummy won’t be so flat so, that’s where I cue in this fab fringed and laced sarong.

As I type away, I’ve easily convinced myself to book a trip and visit my friend in Miami. Enough with all this typing. Bring on the beach bumming!

Getting Lost in Santa Barbara

Never have I ever visited such a lovely slice of heaven. On the last day of our father-daughter road trip, we visited Santa Barbara and our first stop was the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. The lush garden is filled with blooming flowers, fragrant shrubs, and winding trails. My dad and I enjoyed our surroundings so much that we bought six plants from the garden’s nursery and took them on the road with us back home after we stopped by the beach.
As whimsical and nature-themed this day was, my outfit sure wasn’t but that’s A-OK. Leopard denim, black ballet flats and tank, and crystal necklace somewhat clash with this beautiful background, but hey, maybe that’s the beauty in it? Good thing my ballet flats are patent leather so I could easily wipe off the dirt and dust from the trails.

Coastal Cruisin’: Day Two of Road Trip

If you live in California, and haven’t driven down Highway 1, what the hell are you waiting for?! By far, this is one of my most favorite places to visit in California with endless beaches, rolling hills, and sea breezes.
I went a bit preppy this day with a white collared shirt and striped sweater paired with denim and black patent leather ballet flats. With the fog and sea breezes, I ended up throwing on a Rag and Bone trench coat too.

Thanks for the reminder 🙂

Look of the Day: California Coastline Road Trip – Day 1

Last week my dad and I embarked on a 4-day road trip down the California coastline. One of our favorite things to do is just go for a drive and take in the scenery wherever we are–no music, just conversation. So naturally, we decided to drive down the legendary Highway 1.
Take a peek into day one at our first stop in Monterey:
On this day, the weather was on crack. First started out breezy, then chilly and then warm as heck. The entire day I was taking off my leather jacket and five minutes later putting it back on. From unwrapping to rewrapping my scarf around my neck, I almost wanted to hang myself from frustration. Good thing these skinny jeans were super comfy and with tons of stretch for sitting in the car for a couple hours. This roomy knit sweater in lime kept me warm and added a nice pop of color.

No, those are not rocks on the sand. Seals are the original beach bums.

Note: leopard calf hair loafers are not the best shoes for the beach.

There are seriously over 50 shades of grey here.

Weekend Adventures with Daddy

If you search for ‘Daddy’s Girl’ in the dictionary, you’ll see a picture of me. With that being said, daddy loves to take a drive down to the Bay Area for the day to visit me, my bf, my favorite feline, Missy and hang out. Over the weekend we experienced gorgeous, sunny and crisp weather, which inspired us to head to over the Bay Bridge into San Francisco and park at Ocean Beach.

Super casual look of the day.

Pops. He’s pretty smooth, right?

Beach Bag Essentials

Clearly, I’m still daydreaming about taking a tropical beach vacation! Check out one of my recent blog posts here to know what the heck I’m talking about.

Anyway, before I head out to the beach, I’ve got to have all my fashion and beauty ‘essentials’. I triple-double-check that I have everything I need, so that I don’t have to leave my spot in the sand or stay and suffer in the sun without the item.

Here are my Beach Bag Essentials:

1. Shades

Marc Jacobs

At the beach, you can’t avoid the sun. Stop squinting, protect your eyes and look glamourous while soaking up the sun.

2. Tinted Lip Balm

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm

While laying in direct sun, everything is going to get dry– especially your lips. Moisturize, heal and protect your luscious lips with a lip balm and even add a punch of color by applying a tinted lip balm.

3. Sunscreen

Shiseido Sunscreen SPF 60

I mean, this is a no brainer. Do I even need to explain?

4. Water + Snacks

Say no to thirst and hunger pains. Stay hydrated and avoid passing out by bringing a huge bottle of water and some healthy snacks.

5. Waterproof Mascara

Dior DiorShow

After taking a dip in the ocean, running mascara is not a good look. Be prepared and keep mascara out of your eyes with waterproof mascara.

6. Floppy Hat

Echo

There’s only so much heat you can take. A floppy hat will surely relieve you from the sun’s rays.

7. Swimsuit Cover Up

Free People

When you’re not feeling 100% body confident, opt for a flattering cover up for a walk along the shore.

That’s my list! What are your beach essentials? Let me know by leaving a comment!

Island Inspiration

It’s the third day of summer and it’s the third day my mind has been completely fixated on going on vacation. The temperature has risen above 90 degrees, I’m relaxing in my patio with a margarita in hand and all I truly need in life is a beach! Is that so much to ask for?!

Of course while daydreaming of soaking up the sun in Turks and Caicos, I’m also planning my daily outfits of fuss-free, relaxed and flirty fits plus bright and bold accessories.
