Loafers: the Ballet Flat Alternative

Next on my list of purchases is a pair of loafers. I must admit, whenever I see loafers, I think of Kourtney Kardashian’s baby’s daddy, Scott Disick. HA! But seriously, it’s taken me a while to start a love affair with loafers. I was fighting this perception of loafers paired with old men in smoking coats with cigars and a glass of brandy.

A pair of loafers is a perfect look to step up and away from a ballet flat. This season is full of colorful prints, lovely textures and kick ass studs, which add a clean flair to any look.

Take a look at some of my fave loafers below:

Jeffrey Campbell

Christian Louboutin

Steve Madden

Sam Edelman

2011 MTV VMA Red Carpet Faves

As most of you may know, last night MTV hosted their annual VMA award show. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of the show, but for me, I enjoyed myself on my couch watching Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Adele, Chris Brown and more. But what I really enjoyed were the over-the-top outfits…duh!

Check out my faves below:

Nicki Minaj
I always look forward to see what the hell is going on with Nicki’s fits! Everything that she wears is visual eye candy.
Britney Spears
The only artist in a romper and it’s cute, sexy and very VMA appropriate.
Jessie J
You’ve got to give it to Jessie J! Cast and all, she rocked the outfit and all of her performances! Amazing talent.

Kelly Rowland
Kelly’s got it goin’ on! So fab! How could she not be one of my faves?
Beyonce
If you’re ever going to announce that you’re pregnant at an awards show, this is the way to do it!
Oh, and if you’re still out of the loop about last night’s show, peep the video below:

Gorilla Sleeved Coats

As the summer is coming to an end, my eye is on the lookout for a fabulous coat. While doing my pre-shopping research, I noticed how enormous this season’s sleeves are! Not that I hate it or anything, but a slimming silhouette is not the trend here. This season, designers have added a twist to classic winter coats by adding shaggy and thick fur sleeves. Morally, I will not wear fur, but I will rock the hell out of a faux fur sleeved jacket.

Purple Rain

OMG! I know, I know, it’s been a while since my last post. So sorry about the long break! Did ya miss me? I hope so! Bloggers need vacations too! But I must admit, while on vacay in NYC for the past week, I was itching to write a blog post! So anyway, here we go:

Thanks to M.A.C.’s recycle program, if you bring in 6 empty, plastic M.A.C. containers (eyeshadows, eyeliners, lipsticks, lip glosses, you name it), you qualify for a free lipstick. As I’m nearing the end of my Bare Necessity lipgloss, I realize that this container would be my 6th! After screaming, skipping and jumping with joy, the first question that pops into my head is, “What shade of lipstick should I get?” After sorting through my nudes, reds, burgundy and pinks, purple came into mind. Yes girl, purple! Don’t shoot me down just yet! Before you think dark, gothic shades, open your mind to purple pastel and berry purple shades.

These shades compliment most skin tones and are a safer route that opting for a bright pink. Less loud, more oooh! Who knows, purple may replace your everyday pink 😉

Check out the looks below:

Here are several lovely shades to try:

M.A.C. Saint Germain
M.A.C. The Amp
Dior Rouge Dior Lip Colour in #786 Mysterious Mauve
Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense in #15 Pearly Violet

Loving purple lipstick? I can’t decide which to get! Help me decide in the comment box!

A Tux Is A Must

Yesterday, my boyfriend and I had a very interesting conversation about women in menswear. Of course, I’m obsessed with blazers, skinny and bow ties and an amazing pair of wide leg pants. He on the other hand, feels a tad bit different. Maybe because he’s never seen me in a full-on menswear look or that he doesn’t want me raiding his closet– who knows! But what I do know and love, is a woman dressed in a fabulously tailored tuxedo. It’s an amazing feeling to exude sexiness and femininity while suited in menswear.

Take a look at some of my Fall 2011 picks below:

L’Wren Scott

Haider Ackermann

Michael Kors

Jason Wu

Wavy, One-Shoulder Glam

One of my favorite beauty looks is old hollywood glam. The go-to hair style is a wavy, one-shoulder look. With a thick, side-swept bang over the eye, plus shiny, wavy and curly tresses flowing over one shoulder makes the look sleek and seductive. This is a perfect date night or evening event hair style and when paired with a feminine and flirty outfit you’ll complete the look. Note: don’t forget to seal the deal with a vibrant lip color (or at least a shiny nude). It wouldn’t be old hollywood without the lips!

Peep the styles below:

Sarah Jessica Parker
Cameron Diaz

Marion Collard

Elizabeth Banks

Leona Lewis

Seeing Spots

One of the key trends for the upcoming Fall season are playful polka dots. In a range of colors and sizes, the print is easy to match whichever look you’re going for. Chic and sophisticated: small dots and neutral colors. Playful and loud: large dots and bright, bold colors. Incorporate the print anywhere! But that doesn’t mean everything. Polka dots follow the same rule as leopard print for me: one to two pieces max! When incorporating two pieces, one should be dominant (dress, top or bottom) and one teeny, weeny accessory. Too much of the same print can go wrong in so many ways so, make sure that second piece counts.

Take a peek at a few of my Fall polka dot picks below:

Gucci
L.A.M.B.
Lanvin
Marc Jacobs
Paul Smith

Frocking in Lace

Lace isn’t only for the boudoir ladies. Flooding the runways in Spring, this trend is super easy to transition in Fall.  Lace exudes femininity, sophistication and of course, sex appeal. For a daytime look, opt for nude, or white lace dress, top or skirt. Experiment with pairings such as a high waist pant, flair leg denim or a maxi skirt. In the evening, bare it all in black lace with a nude underpinning. Don’t worry you won’t really be baring it all. It’s just the illusion. Want to take it up a notch? Bright colored lace pieces are amazingly sexy and bold! Play around with different hem lines and structures: babydoll, long-sleeve mini, shift…you get my drift.

What do you think of my picks below?

Brioni

Collette Dinnigan

D&G

Dolce & Gabbana

Erdem

Oscar de la Renta

Alberta Ferretti

Lovely LBDs

It is undeniably essential for every woman to own that one little black dress. This is THE go-to dress that you know for damn sure will turn heads. Whether you’re headed to a cocktail party, a fancy date night or industry mixer, your LBD is your number one choice for a sophisticated and sexy look. Who cannot love the versatility of a LBD? Recreate looks with different colored, textured and printed pumps. Add accessories by pairing a wide or skinny waist belt. So many options!

Here of some LBDs I’m loving right now:

BCBGMAXAZRIA

Max and Cleo
Black Halo
